12/8/2023 0 Comments Utopia 2013![]() He had done this out of desperation, being a survivor of the Holocaust and wanting to protect his children from the horror he had created. When she learned that Philip Carvel was alive, she persuaded Jessica to bring her to him, where she learned that his adjustment to Janus meant it would only leave Romani people fertile. Milner's scientists told her that they could discover what the Janus adjustment was if they could dissect Jessica's brain, but Milner could not bring herself to order this, eventually causing her own downfall as her plan would have worked with Jessica dead. Jessica discovered her identity at the last minute, destroying the manuscript, but Milner still managed to kidnap her and held her hostage for five months. However, she helped the main characters foil her own plan (preserving her cover) since it let her get close to Jessica Hyde, to whom Philip had administered his perfected Janus vaccine. The Assistant was the "spokesperson" of the Network when this was required, giving orders to Letts and Geoff in person Milner's true identity was known to very few.Īfter Philip disappeared, her plan was to create a Russian flu scare and use this to test the version of Janus she had on the UK, not knowing what Philip's modification to it was. She would also keep an eye on them from the background for example, she stopped Ian from being caught when he attempted to see his brother. In her first appearance, she saved the main characters from a Network operative who was about to kill them. Milner worked from the shadows, posing as an MI5 member who unwillingly did work for the Network. She presumably ordered Arby's training as a sociopathic hitman, despite him being the son of the person she cared about most. After various world governments pulled their involvement in the Network, she was able to twist it for her own goals. She was an ideal member of that organisation, being willing to do what was "necessary" no matter what it took. Milner became the head of the Network at an unknown point. When he refuses to give Milner Janus, she (regretfully) has him tortured, and planned to do the same to his daughter. However, she would develop an intense obsession with "Carvel's brain" and unflinching royalty to the cause.Īfter the death of Brosca, Philip gets cold feet about his plan due to his love for Jessica, and "adjusts" it so that those who remain fertile are only Romani people like himself and his children. However, tensions eventually grow after Philip's wife Brosca falls pregnant with his daughter, Jessica, causing Milner to become jealous and angry at him as she felt it was in contradiction to his antinatalist views. After a fight within the gala, Milner brings Philip into the Network, which she was presumably already a high-ranking member of. The two instantly form a bond with one another as she becomes obsessed with Philip and his ideas on saving humanity. Presumably, she was already an MI5 agent at this point, and very possibly already a high-ranking Network member at this point, the Network was probably still a government organisation with anti-Soviet goals. In 1974, she would meet Philip Carvel at a met gala attended by extremely powerful and influential. It's possible that she is a Holocaust survivor, as she tells Philip that like him, she has lived through a genocide. Nothing is known about Milner's past other than that her real name is probably Letan. Nothing is much known about her US counterpart's personality. Milner's love for Philip is also shown to be genuine, as after reuniting 40 years later, they both bond and reminisce on the past despite their relationship often bordering on abusive and controlling. Milner is so dedicated to the cause that she almost has a mental breakdown after finding out that Jessica Hyde, the key to the Janus project and virus, managed to escape the facility. Despite killing hundreds if not thousands of innocents, she believes what she is doing is right and ultimately every decision she makes is for the greater good. She is so obsessed that she regards him as a god, and her husband Tom states that she "loves Philip's brain" (though its implied that she might be romantically attracted towards him throughout the series). However, she is also shown to be obsessed with Philip. In the flashback, Milner is shown to be intelligent, cunning and deadly. ![]() She often murders people within the organization just to cover her tracks as well as her notoriously being responsible for torturing Philip Carvel and his son and daughter due to them coming in conflict with his original antinatalist views. Rabbit, she reveals her true self as someone who is completely willing to kill. However, after Jessica Hyde deduces that she is Mr. Upon first appearance, Milner comes across like a soft and understanding woman who cares about her fellow group in hiding from the Network.
